Zion in Black and White

I am channeling my inner "Ansel Adams"!
I am printing these Zion images in black
and white. The extreme lighting we were able
to capture in the early mornings and late
afternoons, gave these images some nice
contrast and light and dark masses. And I
always love reflections in water....perfect.

I hope that some of you get to visit this marvelous
place sometime. It does seem to evoke a
sense of peace and God's presence, thus the
name "Zion". I certainly felt worshipful and
grateful to get to experience it again.

Tea Time

These are some tea cup designs that I have
finished.  The slogan says, "Women are like
Tea, stronger in hot water."  I have used some of
these designs for years...on t-shirts and artwork.
These are sized for printing on a bag, wrap around
cup, notpads, and a coaster.  I will send these off
to be photographed and printed.
I am still working on more: some Christmas
designs, etc.  Will post as finished!

Painted Pigs

It is time for the annual Hog Dog Trials in Winnfield...the
contest held each year where hog hunting dogs compete by
baying wild hogs.  The Chamber of Commerce holds a pig
decorating contest to promote the festival, and this is my
entry this year: "Peace, Love, and Pigs"

This is the Kindergarten School's entry:
"The Hungry, Hungry Pig-apillar"

And who couldn't love this "Billy the Exterminator" pig!

All of the pigs are located out beside the Pea Patch this year
in what they are calling: Uncle Earl's Pig Farm.  This makes it
easier to see them all at once...especially for our out of town
visitors.  So, come by and check them out...really funny.

Patio Playthings

We have been working all spring trying to get our
outside deck area ready.  We are getting close!
Here is a cute wood and iron bug that could
decorate your flower garden or patio.

We also have several whimsical garden pieces.  This hummingbird
is made from a rock, and he "rocks" in the wind.

I am also trying to find lots of vintage iron
pieces like this old gate

We've added 5 tables for seating...a place to sit and
enjoy your lunch this spring.  Come in and order in the
cafe, and then you can make your way outside, weather
permitting!

The Deck is open every day, during store hours.  There are lots
of fun items out there for sale, and it is certainly the time to start
working outside in the yard.  The Deck is also available to rent for parties
or events.  Just call us and let us know what you might have in
mind.  We would love to have you join us on "the Deck".

Good Things...Small Packages

I flew to Las Vegas in order to drive out to
Zion and Bryce.  While there, I encountered
Peter Lik's gallery.  He is a renowned landscape
photographer, and has taken many photos in the
western US.  I enjoyed seeing some of his images.
He also prints a series of small images that he
calls "Elements'.  It might be just a leaf, or
flower petal...a close up of rocks, etc.  I
was browsing through some of my images, and
I thought of these as my own "elements"!  I
always enjoy finding small, interesting subjects
among all the vast landscape vistas.  You just have to
observe, and look a little closer, and you might just
find a small treasure.  And you don't have to go
far...maybe in your own backyard!  I hope you go
out this week, and find joy in the small treasures
of God's infinite creation.

A Few of my Favorite Things...

Going through all the photos from the trip...and these are
three of my favorites.  These are in Bryce...and the snow
really adds to the beauty of the pics.  I will probably get
at least one of these enlarged and printed on canvas.

A New Day is Dawning

The morning we were at Bryce, my friend talked me into
getting up and photographing the sunrise, over the
bowl canyon.  The sun would rise in the east,
directly across from the observation area.  I agreed,
and we set our alarms.  I did manage to turn on the
weather report before we left the hotel....17 degrees
with a -1 wind chill!!  We went anyway!  My friend
was a real trooper, and stayed long into the sunrise...
I snapped the few above, and then I had to go warm up
in the car!  It was breath-taking, and I am glad I
went.  You can always get warm...you can't always
witness God's creation of another new day,
especially over such an awe inspiring place.

Water, Water, Everywhere

In Zion, the Virgin River flows through the canyon.
It was one of the main erosion factors in the development
of this beautiful spot.  The river is almost everywhere you
look in Zion.  I thought I would share some various river
images today.  I am back home, and back to work on some
art ideas for market.

Sunset in Bryce

sunset over Bryce Canyon

Another view, same location

More sunset over Bryce

Facing the sunset (canyon is behind me)

We started the day in Zion, and we ended the
day in Bryce Canyon National Park.  The terrain
is very different; Bryce has what they call
"hoodoos"...rock formations that are tall
and weathered.  We spent the whole day
taking photos all the way through Zion, and into
Bryce.  We stayed the night here in Bryce, and
spent this whole day taking photos all over the
park.  I will post them soon.

'Joy comes in the Morning"

Our cabins in Zion

We got up fairly early this morning, and started
out to capture the sun.  Just the tips of the peaks
were catching the early morning rays, and the rest
of the canyon was in shadow.  In the case of the
white tree...it was against the dark rocks, and its'
bare white branches were in stark contrast.  We
drove through the whole park, and did some hiking
as well.  We left this afternoon and headed to Bryce
canyon.  We arrived there late in the afternoon,
and tomorrow I will post some of the awesome
sunsets we witnessed this evening.  So, daylight till
dark...all in a day's work!
