Blue Ribbon in Irving

The art show that my rhino drawing is in is sponsored by this
organization.

I got to stop in and see the show after I left Waco the other day.
I have posted some of the other artists' work here too.  This is
a scratchboard that is very nice.

I enjoyed getting to see the Animals in Art show in Irving, Tx.
It was a nice variety of work.  Paintings, drawings, and some photography were
 all represented.  The show will stay up another 2 weeks or so.
If the rhino doesn't sell, it will be shipped back home.

Fingers Crossed

"Strokes of Genius" is a book published by North Light Books.  It is
made up of drawings submitted by contemporary artists working in
drawing mediums (pencil, colored pencil, ink, pastel, etc).  I just submitted
all of these for publication in the book.  They accept a higher percentage of
black and white entries, but they do accept colored entries too.
I will not know for a long time...August 28th, which happens to be my
birthday!  Maybe I will get a special present, and have one of these
accepted.  Got my fingers crossed!

Doing the Zoo

We did the Audubon zoo yesterday as well.  It is a great zoo with lots
of unusual animals.  Here are just a few of our favorites.

Working on the Sheep

The sheep painting is taking shape!  First I added the foreground grass.  I chose
to do it in shades of yellow and gold, to help unify the colors already in their
wool coats.  Next, I finished their faces and legs.  After all that was dry,
I used the masking fluid to mask out all of the sheep and the grass, so I
could do the wet background. 
In order to do the background, I turned the painting upside down, so the water
would run off the top of the page.  I wet the whole area, and then
added some blue and violet watercolor, letting it mix on the page.
You can see it beaded up on the masking fluid. 
It will be dry in the morning, and I will take off the mask, and it
should just need a little tweaking.
