Birthday Bubbles

oooh, I love surprises.  I haven't posted this, and I finished it a couple of
months ago.  It is a drawing of Molly, one of my good friend's little
girls.  She had wanted me to do a portrait, but had given me several
photos, and no deadline.  I knew her birthday was today, and I had
talked to her husband, and this was her surprise gift!  What fun!
She told me that Molly said I should have let her color it with
her crayons?!  Too cute.  Happy Birthday!

Memorial Portrait

I have been tweaking this drawing tonight.  I think I am
finished.  The picture looks funny...it is very hard to photograph
a pencil drawing with a flash.  I usually try to take them in the
sunlight, but since it is late at night (usually when I draw!),
I had to try.  It really looks better in person.

I have talked to the family, and they are very appreciative.  This was
a very sweet young lady who had taken some of my art classes.
She was very talented, and popular in school.  I know she is
missed by her family and her friends.

Autumn

This is a commissioned portrait that I have
been working on for awhile.  It is just pencil
on hot pressed watercolor paper.  The young
lady passed away earlier this spring in a four
wheeler accident...a real tragedy.  The parents had
asked me to do a drawing of her, and supplied this
photograph.  I still have some more to go, all of the
background, more work on her hair, and the face is not
absolutely right.  I will work some more on the likeness before
I tell them I am finished.  I want it to be something they will
approve of and treasure,

Rachel: Victorian pastel portrait

I worked some more on this drawing tonight.  I am going
to try to let the client see this tomorrow, and let me
know what she thinks. 
Combining the colored pencil and pastel was the
surest way I knew to make a soft, blended
drawing, that resembled the Victorian print that she
wanted me to copy.  I hope it is what she had in mind!

A Challenging Proposition

I was commissioned to do a very interesting

piece awhile back, and I am just starting to work

on it.  The client owns the Victorian print of the

young girl with the flowers.  The young girl in the

photo is her granddaughter.  She wants me to draw

the child in the same style as the print.  She gave me

the photos of her that were already posed in a similar

way, so that helped.  But it is going to be a challenge!

I am working in colored pencil and pastel, so that

I can get the soft, blurry quality.  But I will admit, that

I might be in over my head?!  It will probably take me

a long time, and I will try to post some progress.

Dog Gone

I finished up this dog portrait late last night,
and the client saw it today, and loved it. It
always feels good when the pet owner is
satisfied with the art work. I thought it
turned out well, and it will be really nice
matted and framed.

Baby Boy in Black and White

This is my next commission piece...isn't he

adorable?! Someone paid for this piece as

a gift last Christmas, and they just now sent

the photo. I think they were waiting for him

to get a little older! And now, here he is. This

should be fun to do. Will keep you posted.

Pencil Portrait - Young Lady

This is the photo of the girl that I have to draw next...I

will have to do some adjusting! I will leave the boyfriend

out of the picture! They wanted her hair up, so I will try

to do it as presented. It will be a challenge...I hope they like

the results. Will post when done.
