Mixed Bag

There is a shop in Breaux Bridge (pronounced "bro") that
represents 250 Louisiana artists and their work.  They have
been selling my work for awhile. But recently, they have
sold quite a few.  They call every couple of weeks and want
more!  Yay!  So, here are four new ones that I did
quickly, so that I could take them down there.

This is a new style I have been playing with.  The background is
done loosely with watercolor and allowed to dry.
I use my own reference photos and add the birds or
object then in acrylic paint, which is opaque.  It covers
over the watercolor background, and especially makes
white areas possible.  They have been a lot of fun...I am
really enjoying them.  They combine my two favorite techniques:
loose, washy wet watercolor, and then detailed,
realistic image.  perfecto!!

Loose and Tight

Still working on these abstract, mixed media pieces.  I like doing the
fun, loose, wet backgrounds.  They happen in just a few minutes, and then
you have to wait for them to dry.  It is always neat to see how
they will turn out.  The white specs are made by sprinkling salt on
the wet paper.  It soaks up the pigment, and leaves the white areas.
Then I paint the bird over the background.  I just recently took this photo
in south Louisiana where these white pelicans spend the winters.

It is 11 x 14, and $100.

Sweet Home Louisiana

Here are some of the show pics...this is the "egret

wall"! I love the metal pelican sculpture (not mine...)

These are some of the black and white pieces

hung all together

And here are some of the collage pieces with some

metal accents.

And these all have a "kitchen" theme

The rest of of the gallery is decorated with

the "swampy" Christmas theme with

lots of burlap, greenery, spanish moss,

and cypress knees. We are just about done,

and will have time to spare before the opening

day! yea!

Swamp Collage

PhotoShop can do some really neat

things to photographs. I had this collage

canvas already (with some Greek photos)

on it. So, I have been playing with some

of the Louisiana swamp photos, printing

them in reds, golds, and browns. I am

going to re-work the collage into a Louisiana

work for the upcoming show. The cypress

trees and moss were in Lake Martin. The

egret was in Blind River. I will post the

finished product tomorrow.

Natchitoches Art Guild Show

The Natchitoches Art Guild sponsors a juried

show every year in August. They must remove

their art from their gallery walls to make

room for the show entries. I had invited them

earlier in the year to come and hang a show

during the month of August while the art

would be available. So, a few of them submitted

some work, and it is now hanging in our

gallery.

I really like chickens and roosters, and several

of the pieces are that genre. The wire

sculpture pieces are done by Char White.

The oil painting of the rooster is by Margie

Tate from Alexandria, and the parrots

are by Linda Lyles. (you can tell I like all

the birds!) The show will come down on

August 29th, so come by and check it out

this month.

Making Some Progress

Worked on these two little paintings

tonight. I am making some progress.

I am trying to decide what color to paint

the area behind the bird. I am thinking

about black. It would really make the

shape of the bird "pop". High contrast

is always a plus.
