A StreetCar Named "Finished"

Here's the final streetcar in the snow. I have to

say this is a first for me...not my usual subject

matter. Especially since it hardly EVER snows

where I live. But I did it for a friend who is going

to give it to his wife as a late Christmas gift. I

hope she likes it.

I added the snow this morning in two different

methods. First, I drew some in with the white pastel,

making some staccato marks, and some longer strokes

throughout the piece. Then, I added some splatter with

some white acrylic paint and a toothbrush...it made the

tiny little snowflakes and white blur. It was fun,

and I think it gave it the right effect.

A StreetCar Called Snow

A few posts ago, there is the photo of the

streetcar in New Orleans in the snow (rare).

Anyway, someone wanted me to paint it for

them. As a watercolor artist, I knew it was

next to impossible to paint a snowy scene in

watercolor. I was at the gallery, and I showed

the photo to a bright seven year old who frequents

my establishment. She is quite artistic, and I

showed her the picture, and was discussing with

her how I was not going to be able to do the snow

with watercolor. And she suggested chalk! How

brilliant she was....of course, I could do it in pastel.

Out of the mouth of babes...so anyway, here is the

beginning of the "streetcar called snowstorm"..
