"Let it Bee"

"Let it Bee"
Polychromos and Prismacolors on Arches Hot pressed paper
15 x 22  $900.00

I finished this drawing this weekend.  It was a lot of fun.  I have
never really done a fuzzy, out of focus background before.  It was
a challenge at first, until I figured out what I needed to do.
The white flowers are a mixture of so many different
colors: purple, grey, blue, gold.  All of those colors will blend
to create a shadow on a white surface.  It is often influenced by the
other colors being reflected by the white surface.  The white
that you do see is plain paper.  I use an electric eraser to clean up
the white areas...they can get kinda smudged as you are working.

Pretty in Pink

I took this picture of this spoonbill in the zoo in Baton Rouge.
They have a large exhibit of water birds including these,
egrets, scarlet ibis, and night herons.  When I was there,
many of the birds had built nests, and were sitting on eggs.
It would be fun to go at the time of the year when they all were
hatched!

I have several competitions to enter this spring, and this is the time of
year I usually start on a couple of show pieces.  I am doing this
in colored pencil, and perhaps it will be entered in the CPSA show.
The show is in Florida this summer.
