A Double Hit!!

Wow...what a great time in Texas!  I have been in Clifton, Texas
for the 31st Bosque Art Center juried show.  What a beautiful place.
It is housed in the old Clifton College building.  And the Arts Council
is very active, and doing a great job!
The banquet was held on Saturday night, and it was exciting!  My
piece, "Not So Angry Bird" won the Silver medal in Drawing!!!
Wow, what an honor...I am shocked!  There were some
fabulous pieces in this show.  And then...it SOLD!!!
That hasn't happened in a long time (only once before!).
To God be the glory for His goodness in giving
me this talent.  May I always use it to glorify Him!

Selling in the South

These are three more little mixed media watercolors that I finished
and took down to Breaux Bridge.  I took 25 pieces down there over the
weekend, and they wanted 22 of them!  They were very impressed, and thought
they would be able to sell them easily.  I hope they are right!.

Blue Pelicans

Still in progress here...I did some "lifting"....you can re-wet some dark
areas with a brush, scrubbing slightly, and the pigment will loosen
and can be dabbed up with a paper towel.

Here's a close up of some of the lifted areas.

I still thought it needed something, so I added some pen and ink lines
and flourishes.  I may still add some colored pencil strokes too.  I like the
colors in contrast with the white birds.  I thought the complimentary
scheme of purples and yellows would be different.
It's just a fun piece...another Louisiana subject.  It will be for sale
in the gallery, or I can ship!

A Little More Bird

Just making a little progress on this drawing.  This time of year is
always so busy with various activities.  And now I have used up all of
my green pencils that I have been using for the background.  So, I have ordered
some from Cheap Joe's, and I will work on the bird for now.  I hope
I can capture the luminosity of his transparent wings.  The late
afternoon light was filtering right through his feathers...just
beautiful.  I may try this photo in watercolor as well, to see which
medium can best capture that quality....or maybe it's the artist who
determines that...ha!

Blog Give Away- Original Colored Pencil Drawing

Blog GiveAway

I managed to get these matted and framed this weekend.  The
pelican is framed in a black wooden molding, with a tan mat,
dark green liner, and linen inner liner.  It is 35'' x 18'' and  for sale.

And the cardinal is just matted with a red liner and linen mat.  It is also
narrow...27" by 17".  I think I will give it away!  I just posted it as my
cover photo on Facebook.  I haven't given anything away in a long time.
If you will leave me a comment, I will put everyone's name in a
hat, and draw a winner.  I will draw at the end of March...a whole month.
Go ahead...I usually have only a few leave comments, so you
have a good chance at winning!!

Pretty in Pink

I took this picture of this spoonbill in the zoo in Baton Rouge.
They have a large exhibit of water birds including these,
egrets, scarlet ibis, and night herons.  When I was there,
many of the birds had built nests, and were sitting on eggs.
It would be fun to go at the time of the year when they all were
hatched!

I have several competitions to enter this spring, and this is the time of
year I usually start on a couple of show pieces.  I am doing this
in colored pencil, and perhaps it will be entered in the CPSA show.
The show is in Florida this summer.

"Not so Angry Bird"

Just heard from the CPSA International Exhibition,
and this drawing made it in!  I am pleased, because it is
very hard to get into this show.  There are entries from
all over the world, and the talent is amazing.
You just never know what the judge is looking for.
Last year when I attended the convenion, I remember
the juror stating that he looks for drawings that will
complete his vision for the show.  He
selected pieces in certain catagories..florals,
landscapes, people, etc...until he felt there were
enough in that catagory?!  Anyway, I feel that all
the best work should be in...no matter what the
subject matter.  But I guess that is why he was the
juror and I wasn't!!   But I am glad that the juror
this year thought mine was worthy of selection...woohoo!

This piece will be on display at the Pea Patch Gallery in Winnfield
until I have to ship it to the show, if you would like to see it
up close.  Thanks!

Show Ready

I am getting closer to finishing this drawing.  I just added a little
background...some of the colors in the bird lightly cross-hatched across
the surface.  I am going to enter this in the Colored Pencil Society
show soon.
