Pigs on Parade

It's time for the Hog Dog trials again!  And I got some GREAT help today
painting my pig.  My students agreed to paint it today, and they had
so much fun.  It is going to be "Pea Patch Pig...with the letter
"P" and a patch of fabric.  So, that's what they painted today....just the
letter and the patch.  I will come back and add the finishing details.

The tutu pig was finished today, and is "Hog Wild".  There will be many
more finished this week...will try to keep posting.

(For those of you not familiar with this tradition:  Our little town hosts the largest
hog dog competition in the world every March.  Hunters with dogs come from
everywhere, and enter their dogs in a hog baying contest, where they must
keep the wild hog pinned in the corner, etc. The businesses paint these concrete
hogs downtown to help celebrate...just for fun)

Matching Sunflower design for
Medallions

In the course of a day, I do so many art-related tasks.
I usually try to start the day with a design project,
sketching some ideas, drawing off something to paint
that night, etc.  When I get to the gallery around lunch
every day, I help wait on the customers, prepare
desserts, bus tables...etc.  Then in the afternoon, I
wait on customers in the shop or work on custom
frame orders.  I might have to un-box an order of gift
merchandise, or arrange items in the shop or gallery.
Then, late at night, at home, I usually paint or
draw something before I go to bed.  My days are never
dull!  And it is a great life for an artist...I am not just
isolated in my studio, waiting for ideas, and working
all alone!  I get a chance everyday to interact with people,
talk about my work, serve people a great meal,
and custom frame their treasured items. 

The pen and ink drawing at the top was a framing job I
finished today.  The customer had two Winnfield prints already,
and she wanted this one to add to her collection.  It is a print
of the Long family home that was here in Winnfield.  Huey and
Earl both grew up in this house.  It burned down, but the park is
the original location.  I have the prints, in black and white,
and I hand-paint them with watercolor.

The sunflower painting was done to match the red and gold
medallion designs I finished a few days ago.  It will all go together
on some products I am working on.  Will share when it all gets
done.  I am very excited to be doing my own collection,
and can't wait to get it all finalized. woohoo

Since I have lived here almost 33 years, I have drawn

all the landmarks a long time ago. This is the namesake

for my business: the Pea Patch Farm owned by Earl

K. Long, governor and colorful politician from Winnfield.

We sell this image on prints, notecards, and postcards.

I had a call from a customer from Oklahoma this week

wanting to buy a print and have it shipped. She said

she had been in Winnfield recently and had seen the

print in the shop. I asked her which one she was interested

in, and she said, "the one on the stilts." I wasn't quite

sure what she meant, and I described several of the

drawings to her, but she insisted it was on stilts. So,

I sent her a copy of this one, to see if this is the one....

they look like blocks to me...but maybe in Oklahoma,

those qualify as "stilts". I guess she hasn't been in

south Louisiana...!
