"Louisiana...Coming Home"

Just about all ready!  Here are some of the pieces headed to 
Lake Charles for my show opening on the 30th.  It will be held at the 
Central School Arts and Humanities Center at 809 Kirby St in Lake Charles.
I have been really busy framing everything, and  
preparing the labels, etc.  I will hang it all on Monday, 
and come  back to Winnfield.  Then, on Friday morning, I 
will be on TV in Lake Charles, where they will interview me 
about the show.  Ha!  ought to be interesting.  I think I can 
"clean up" my Southern accent...maybe.  
Then the opening reception will be Friday night, the 30th 
from 5-9pm.  It will be lots of fun...hope some of you can 
make it.  If not, the show will be up through October 21.

Since I have lived here almost 33 years, I have drawn

all the landmarks a long time ago. This is the namesake

for my business: the Pea Patch Farm owned by Earl

K. Long, governor and colorful politician from Winnfield.

We sell this image on prints, notecards, and postcards.

I had a call from a customer from Oklahoma this week

wanting to buy a print and have it shipped. She said

she had been in Winnfield recently and had seen the

print in the shop. I asked her which one she was interested

in, and she said, "the one on the stilts." I wasn't quite

sure what she meant, and I described several of the

drawings to her, but she insisted it was on stilts. So,

I sent her a copy of this one, to see if this is the one....

they look like blocks to me...but maybe in Oklahoma,

those qualify as "stilts". I guess she hasn't been in

south Louisiana...!

Louisiana Pecan Festival Poster contest

The deadline for the Louisiana Pecan Festival

Poster is May 1. I have been playing around with

some design ideas. I have never entered before.

I am usually not interested in entering these contests;

I usually think my art is not very applicable, or

the competition is too stiff, and I don't have a chance.

But they have contacted me for the last two years,

and I feel kind of obligated to at least send something

in. I tried looking up past winners, and could only

find one: a very realistic watercolor still life with

pecan products (pecan syrup, pecan pie, a bag of

pecans, etc).

Anyway, I am thinking graphic, with some browns,

blues, and aqua. Will post the progress.
